Sanur
Sanur is the ideal option for anyone who wants to avoid the crowds of Kuta. The bay where Sanur is located is shielded by a coral reef, so that the sea will be calm and the surf will be limited.
Between the beach and the hotels of Sanur there is a hiking/cycling path. This passes several restaurants and warungs, where you can usually rent a lounge bed with parasol for + € 3 p.p. This makes Sanur one of the only places on Bali where you can have a bite to eat directly at the beach.
Next to the Grand Inna Beach Hotel in Sanur you will find the residence of the Belgian painter Le Mayeur de Merpres. He came to live in Sanur in 1932. His post-impressionist paintings of Bali and of his travels in Europe and Africa are exhibited in his residence, which now functions as a museum.
Near the Sanur Beach Hotel there is an antique pillar, made of soft volcanic tuff and crowned with a lotus. According to the Balinese, the pillar is over a thousand years old.
For orchid lovers, a visit to the Bali Orchid Garden, at a short distance from Sanur, is a must. In this calm and beautiful place you will find many common and rare orchid types from everywhere in Indonesia. You can also find other tropical plants, and with some luck you can see the gigantic Amorphophallus titanum from Sumatra in bloom. The plan with its strong scent can reach a length of up to 1.80 m!
Finally, Sanur is also a great place to start day trips to the south or east of Bali, during which you can visit beautiful temples and enjoy the amazing rice fields.
